ECHA began to conduct public consultation on the unified classification and labeling of three newly proposed substances. The EU regulations on the classification, labeling and packaging of substances and mixtures, namely CLP Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008, came into effect on January 20, 2009. Under this regulation, EU member states and companies can propose proposals for the classification and labeling of substances. These proposals will be published on ECHA's website for comments from interested parties. The CLP regulations will gradually replace the Hazardous Substances Directive (Directive 67/548/EEC) and the Hazardous Preparation Directive (1999/45/EC). These two directives will be repealed on June 1, 2015. Recently ECHA announced that three new substances have been submitted for public comment on their classification and labeling. These substances are as follows: – Ethylene glycol monoethyl ether CAS 110-80-5 – Diisobutylene CAS 25167-70-8 – Vinyl acetate Ester CAS 108-05-4 The deadline for public comment is October 4, 2010. If the proposal review is accepted, these substances will be added to the list of classified substances in Part III of Annex VI of the Regulation, and the unified classification will be published on ECHA's website.
