On February 24, 2022, the EU published in its Official Gazette 12 amendments to the mercury exemption clauses in Annex III of the RoHS Directive. The relevant directives will take effect 20 days after the announcement. Member states will have six months to translate them into local laws. The final amendments are as follows: <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The European Commission has terminated existing exemptions for the use of mercury in lamps. Based on the conclusions of an assessment conducted by the European Commission since 2016, which indicates that safe, mercury-free alternatives are widely available for use in fluorescent lamps, several of the mercury exemptions will be terminated. On February 24, 2022, the EU published in the Official Journal amendments to 12 mercury exemptions in Annex III of the RoHS Directive. The relevant directives will take effect 20 days after the announcement, and member states will have six months to transpose them into local legislation.
