Bush signed the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act of 2008 (CPSIA). This act authorized and expanded the powers of the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) to prevent unsafe products from entering the United States, thereby addressing the shortcomings of existing U.S. consumer product safety laws.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Key points of the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-table\"><table><tbody><tr><td>The sale of any product targeted at children aged 12 or under, or containing lead exceeding the prescribed limits, is prohibited. The upper limit for lead content is implemented in phases. From February 10, 2009, the upper limit for lead content was 600 ppm. In the second phase, from August 14, 2009, the allowable limit was changed to 300 ppm.
