On December 3, 2008, the European Commission published a report proposing amendments to the existing RoHS Directive, along with a Q&A document explaining the content and rationale for the amendments. The Q&A document is summarized below:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

B. Prohibited Substances

\"\"<\/td>The list of prohibited substances remains unchanged; however, four substances (HBCDD, DEHP, BBP, and DBP) have been identified as priority for assessment and may be added to the list of prohibited substances in the future.<\/td><\/tr>
\"\"<\/td>Allowing the use of components that do not comply with the directive will help bring equipment containing exclusionary items to market.<\/td><\/tr>
\"\"<\/td>A new appendix on exclusions for medical devices and monitoring and control instruments has been added to address special circumstances where no viable alternatives exist at present.<\/td><\/tr>

\"\"<\/td>The committee must establish detailed exclusion criteria to serve as a legal basis for decisions when economic operators make updated requests to the committee.<\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

D. Product Conformity Assessment Requirements and Market Surveillance Mechanisms
Proposed Content<\/strong>
New Clause Articles 7-17 introduce product conformity assessment requirements and market surveillance mechanisms consistent with \"Product Marketing\" (based on the general framework for product marketing as per Executive Committee Decision 768\/2008\/EC).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
