Since the first edition of the Guide to Greener Electronics was published in August 2006, Greenpeace has updated the assessment every three months. The twelfth edition was released on July 1, 2009, which assessed 18 world-renowned manufacturers, covering products such as computers, mobile phones, televisions and game consoles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Key Evaluation Points<\/strong>
This evaluation continues the key points of the eighth edition, assessing various major manufacturers based on 15 criteria, covering the following:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"\"<\/td>Can they fulfill their responsibility to recycle waste products?<\/td><\/tr>

Evaluation and ranking<\/strong>

Since November 2007, Samsung has been able to offer LCD screens free of polyvinyl chloride (PVC). The company also offers mobile phones free of brominated flame retardants (BFR) and develops halogen-free memory modules. Its commitment to reducing the use of greenhouse gases is a major reason for Samsung's improved performance. Samsung has also pledged that from 2012 onwards, all its products (not just computers, televisions, and mobile phones) will be free of all phthalates and beryllium alloys and their compounds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sony Ericsson's improvements in energy efficiency are the main reason it has maintained its third-place ranking. It also focuses on reducing the use of harmful chemicals in its products.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
