The Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources (MEWR) recently announced regulations similar to the EU RoHS Directive, prohibiting the addition of six hazardous substances to electrical and electronic products. The regulations are expected to take effect on June 1, 2017. The National Environment Agency (NEA) of Singapore stated that the Phase II Environmental Protection and Management Act, based on amendments to the EU RoHS Directive, regulates the following hazardous substances' limits: \u2013 Cadmium and its compounds; \u2013 Hexavalent chromium; \u2013 Lead and its compounds; \u2013 Mercury and its compounds; \u2013 Polybrominated biphenyls (PBBBs); and \u2013 Polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs). However, Singapore's RoHS-like regulations only regulate a relatively small number of products, including: \u2013 Mobile phones; \u2013 Notebook computers; \u2013 Refrigerators; \u2013 Air conditioners; \u2013 Panel TV sets; and \u2013 Washing machines. The NEA recommends that all manufacturers and importers of electrical and electronic products must submit a RoHS compliance declaration before their products are marketed in Singapore.
