If passed, the ban would cover:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Water bottles, cups and other containers containing bisphenol A, provided that such containers (1) are designed or intended for use by children aged 3 years or younger to hold liquids, food or beverages; and (2) are not containing any liquids, food or beverages when sold or distributed.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The container of a liquid, food or beverage in a can, bottle or other container contains 5 parts per 10 billion of bisphenol A, and the liquid, food or beverage is designed or intended primarily for consumption by children aged 3 years or younger<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Sports water bottle.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Bisphenol A (BPA) is used to manufacture epoxy resins and polycarbonate plastics, and is a major component of hard polycarbonate plastics. Polycarbonate plastics are used in a variety of food and beverage packaging products, while epoxy resins are commonly used as a clear coating for metal products. BPA is also used in many children's products, such as toys, pacifiers, bottles, and teethers; however, given increasing public concern, many manufacturers have voluntarily phased out the use of BPA in their products.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Several U.S. states and cities have attempted to ban the use of bisphenol A (BPA) in children's products, but these efforts have failed, including San Francisco and California.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Consumer Product Safety Enhancement Act prohibits the use of certain phthalates, but does not restrict bisphenol A (BPA). At the federal level, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is reviewing data on all products regulated by the agency, including those known to contain BPA.
