The survey, titled "Green Electronic…The search continues," identified 15 participating manufacturers:

Acer, Dell, Fujitsu Siemens, Hewlett Packard, Lenovo, LG Electronics, Motorola, Nokia, Panasonic, RIM/Blackberry, Sharp, Samsung, Sony, Sony Ericsson, Toshiba.

The 15 participating manufacturers submitted a total of 50 products to Greenpeace for evaluation. The evaluation criteria were divided into four main categories:

1. Use of hazardous chemical substances: Hazardous substances include PVC, brominated flame retardants (BRFs), antimony, phthalates, beryllium, and other substances that are harmful to human health or the environment;

2. Product power consumption: Rated according to Energy Star and U.S. Environmental Protection Agency standards;

3. Product lifecycle: This includes the percentage of recycled plastics used and the recyclability rate;

4. Data Availability: Data on energy consumption from product manufacturing to sales can be used as an evaluation criterion, as can research and development of designs that reduce environmental harm.

The main findings of the investigation report are as follows:

The electronics manufacturers participating in the evaluation use less PVC and hazardous chemicals.

LED displays (liquid crystal displays) are becoming increasingly popular because they consume less energy and do not contain mercury.

Larger products such as televisions and monitors are using more recycled plastics. However, most mobile phones, desktop computers, and laptops still need to increase their use of recycled plastics.

Except for a few products that do not yet meet the latest Energy Star requirements, most manufacturers have quickly adopted and complied with the new Energy Star specifications.

Most manufacturers can trace the energy resources consumed in the production process of their products, but there are no international standards to serve as a benchmark for comparison.

Top Performing Electronic Product:
The Lenovo L244 0x wide screen is completely free of PVC plastic and brominated flame retardants (BFRs), as well as phthalates, antimony, and beryllium.
