Companies that produce or import this substance must identify their potential liabilities. Whether acrylamide will be included in the list of authorized substances remains undecided.

On January 13, 2010, ECHA officially released its second list of Substances of Very High Concern (SVHCs), removing acrylamide from the list of candidate SVHCs previously identified by ECHA member state commissioners. This was because polyelectrolyte production group PPG and French acrylamide producer SNF formally filed a complaint with the General Court of the European Union against ECHA's inclusion of acrylamide in the REACH SVHC candidate list. PPG and SNF argued that acrylamide is primarily used as a chemical intermediate and should be exempt from authorization under REACH. They argued that the process of determining acrylamide's inclusion in the SVHC candidate list was based on insufficient evidence and violated both the requirements of REACH and the principle of equal treatment. This temporary injunction was lifted on March 26, 2010, by the President of the General Court of the European Union.

source

ECHA/PR/10/05

[79

post-6253","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-echa
["GET
