Agence France-Presse reported that the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) revealed in a new report that a full one-third of the world's 252 sites listed as UNESCO natural heritage sites are now threatened by changes brought about by climate change. Overall, 94 sites face significant or critical risks due to various factors, including tourism, hunting, fire and water pollution, an increase from the 62 listed in the previous report in 2017. The study also suggests that the 2019 novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) epidemic has also harmed some of the world's most beautiful and precious natural sites. However, climate change remains the biggest single threat to date.
