ZDHCRelease of guidelines for the management of chemical substances in the textile industry
The Zero Discharge of Hazardous Chemicals (ZDHC) recently released a new Chemical Management System (CMS) guide to assist textile mills, brands, retailers and supply chains in establishing Internal CMS. The guidance manual formulates the methods, structures and documents that need to be established and supported within the enterprise to achieve the goals of ZDHC.
Cheryl Kreindler, program manager of ZDHC, said that a sound chemical substance management system not only contributes to employee safety and reduces negative environmental impacts on the community and the earth, but is also a milestone in demonstrating the company's continued growth toward the concept of zero emissions of hazardous substances.
ZDHC's chemical substance management system provides enterprises with a comprehensive and pragmatic process for the management of hazardous substances, and enterprises upstream and downstream of the supply chain can smoothly introduce it.
The guidebook is divided into 5 chapters and references the Plan, Do, Check and Act cycle structure of the ISO management system. The management planning (Plan) stage includes the company's commitment to introduce CMS, assessment and priority identification; the execution operation (Do) stage is the introduction of chemical substance management; the check operation (Check) stage is mainly the monitoring after the system is introduced; and the review operation ( Act) stage involves management review.
In addition to citing the ISO management system framework, this guidebook also covers other related system architectures, such as the Practical Chemical Management Toolkit of the German Agency for International Cooperation (Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit, GIZ) and the American Outdoor Industry Chemicals Management Working Group Framework of the Outdoor Industry Association.
ZDHC organization brand members include the following well-known manufacturers in the country: Adidas Group, Benetton Group, Burberry Group PLC, C&A, Esprit, G-Star Raw CV, Gap Inc., H&M, Inditex, Jack Wolfskin, Levi Strauss & Co., Li Ning , L Brands, M&S, New Balance Athletic Shoe Inc., PUMA SE and PVH Corp. As more and more international brands join ZDHC, suppliers upstream in the supply chain must be prepared to introduce the ZDHC chemical substance management system upon customer request.
Even if the company is not in the textile industry, it can still refer to the guide manual and try to introduce a chemical substance management system, because green and non-toxic products have become a necessary international trend. Only by changing the manufacturing process and management and strengthening the greening energy within the enterprise can it become competitive in the international market.
In order to assist the upstream and downstream of the supply chain in introducing the chemical substance management system, ZDHC has placed the relevant forms on the official website for companies to download for free. The download website is:http://www.roadmaptozero.com/programme-documents.php
