South Korea spot-checks e-commerce platforms, finds many consumer products fail to comply with regulations on banned or restricted substances

Several products on South Korean overseas shopping platforms contain excessive levels of banned or restricted substances.

Many popular products on overseas shopping platforms violate regulations

A recent survey of popular products on overseas online shopping platforms frequently used by South Korean consumers revealed that many products contained hazardous substances exceeding legal limits. The survey found that approximately 16% of children's products contained excessive levels of banned or restricted substances, and 7% of everyday household products did not meet relevant regulations.

Consumer product compliance trends are gaining increasing attention

In today's market environment, where compliance requirements are increasingly stringent, these products undoubtedly face serious sales risks. The illegal substances detected in this investigation, including heavy metals like lead and cadmium, phthalate plasticizers, nonylphenol, and formaldehyde, are all substances explicitly restricted by regulations such as RoHS, SVHC, and Annex XVII. Some products even exceeded the regulatory limit by approximately 400 times. Relevant authorities have taken swift action to halt the sale of these illegal products and restrict their distribution.
