The review of RoHS exclusion clauses will begin in January next year.

Article 5, paragraph 1(C) of the RoHS Directive stipulates that: for items excluded in the appendix, an audit shall be conducted at least every four years, or four years after a new item is added.

Oko-Institut, a consulting firm, was selected to manage the RoHS Directive review process and provide recommendations. Oko-Institut also created a website so the public can access the latest review information at any time. The website address is:http://rohs.exemptions.oeko.info/

The first RoHS Directive stakeholders consultation meeting is scheduled for January 2008, during which the current 29 exclusion clauses and 3 newly proposed exclusion clauses will be reviewed. This stakeholders consultation meeting will last eight weeks.

In addition to the six restricted substances listed in RoHS, the EU is considering adding other hazardous substances and determining whether RoHS or REACH can most effectively manage hazardous substances in electrical and electronic equipment. Oko-Institut, a consulting firm, is also working to identify chemical substances not yet included in the "Hazardous Substances in Electrical and Electronic Equipment" list..

The inclusion of items in exclusion clauses does not mean they will never be subject to legal regulations. Therefore, it is recommended that manufacturers pay close attention to the future development and trends of exclusion clauses.
