China announces Regulations on the Management of Recycling and Disposal of Waste Electrical and Electronic Products

The State Council of China released the following information on February 25, 2009:

"The Regulations on the Management of Recycling and Disposal of Waste Electrical and Electronic Products were adopted at the 23rd Executive Meeting of the State Council on August 20, 2008, and are hereby promulgated. They shall come into force on January 1, 2011."

The "Regulations on the Management of Recycling and Disposal of Waste Electrical and Electronic Products," also known as China WEEE, consists of five chapters and 35 articles. The recycling, disposal, and related activities of waste electrical and electronic products listed in the "Catalogue of Waste Electrical and Electronic Products" must comply with the regulations of China WEEE.

There are still about two years before China WEEE is implemented. During this period, the Chinese government will also begin to formulate the "Catalogue of Waste Electrical and Electronic Products for Disposal", the collection and management methods for the waste electrical and electronic products disposal fund, and the fund fee standards and disposal subsidy standards for different products.
