The Norwegian Environmental Agency recently announced that it will ban the use of perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) in consumer products starting June 1, 2014. The ban will apply to both solid and liquid consumer products and textiles.

Perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) is widely used in cleaning agents, paints, coatings, textiles, leather and electronic products, but it is difficult to break down in the environment and may enter the human body through food, air and water, leading to decreased fertility and other immune system diseases.

The specific requirements are as follows:

In addition to Norway's ban on PFOA, the EU has added PFOA to its SVHC candidate list, requiring companies and their supply chains to provide information on its use. Faced with increasingly stringent requirements from the EU and Norway regarding PFOA, exporting companies must promptly strengthen their PFOA control measures.
