The new EU RoHS directive is expected to take effect in 2014

According to Article 4, Paragraph 7 of the EU RoHS Directive Draft COM(2008) 809/4 (available for download in the annex), "When a chemical substance poses an unacceptable risk to human health or the environment, especially substances listed in Annex III (HBCDD, DEHP, BBP, DBP), the assessment must be conducted on a EU-wide basis. The limits for restricted substances listed in Annex IV should be reassessed in accordance with Articles 69-72 of the REACH Regulation." Therefore, it is estimated that the new RoHS will not add any restricted substances, but rather will depend on the results of future risk assessments.

The new RoHS directive is expected to be published after the European Parliament elections in June 2009, and will officially take effect in 2014.
