EU Toy Directive Revises Lead Content Limits

The EU Toy Safety Directive has revised lead limits. The Council of Ministers of the European Union recently (March 27) adopted amendments to Annex II of the Toy Safety Directive regarding lead content in products. The new directive amends as follows: – In dry, brittle, or powdery soft toy materials, the lead content limit is reduced from 13.5 mg/kg to 2 mg/kg; – In liquid or sticky toy materials, the lead content limit is reduced from 3.4 mg/kg to 0.5 mg/kg; and – In scratchable toy materials, the lead content limit is reduced from 160 mg/kg to 23 mg/kg. The amended directive will be published in the Official Journal of the European Union and will take effect 20 days after publication. Source: Chemical Watch (March 29, 2017) (Compiled by PIDC)
