South Korea releases list of restricted ingredients in cosmetics

  • 2013-09-12

South Korea’s revised cosmetic safety standards, which include a negative list of prohibited substances replacing the positive list of permitted substances in the current standards (Annex 1 of the regulations), will come into effect on February 16, 2013.

On January 16, 2013, the Korean Food and Drug Administration (KFDA) announced new standards and included two detailed lists of chemical substances in Annex II of the regulations, showing the chemicals permitted for use in disinfectants/preservatives and UV shielding agents under restricted conditions. Once in effect, these standards will apply to all cosmetics manufactured domestically or imported into Korea.
