The European Union established its ecolabel system in 1992 and amended it in 2000. Regulation EC 1980/2000, adopted by the European Parliament and the Council, expanded the product scope to include all consumer products (excluding food, beverages, and pharmaceuticals) and services. The EU ecolabel's evaluation standards are drafted by the European Environment Labelling Authority (EUEB) and approved by the European Commission. EUEB members include ecolabeling bodies from member states, environmental NGOs, consumer associations, business associations, and representatives of SMEs.
The EU Green Label for Flowers is awarded by relevant certification bodies in EU member states based on environmental standards for each product category. Those that pass the review are granted the "green flower" label. Currently, the EU Green Label for Flowers covers 21 product categories and more than 300 products, including textiles, footwear, cleaning agents, household appliances, paper products, paints and coatings, light bulbs, televisions, washing machines, dishwashers, refrigerators, personal computers, and laptops.
Although only 188 companies have applied for and obtained the product environmental label to date, the sales volume of products bearing the environmental label has increased dramatically from 80 million units in 2002 to 217 million units today.
The application process for the EU eco-label for flowers is briefly outlined below:
1. Check whether the product meets the review standards for the product category;
2. Review of applicant eligibility: Manufacturers, importers, and service providers are all eligible to apply; traders and retailers are also eligible, but the products applied for must be their own brand goods;
3. Contact the relevant certification bodies for environmental labels in EU member states: If the product is manufactured in an EU member state, you can contact the local certification body directly; if the product is not manufactured within the EU, you can contact the certification body of any EU member state.
4. Complete the application form: Fill out the application form provided by the certification body and attach relevant supporting documents (such as test reports).
