ECHAUpdated version of monomer and polymer guidance released
ECHA, the European Chemical Agency, announced an updated version of its Guidance for monomers and polymers in March this year.
The differences between the updated version and the first version are as follows:
Section 2.2 explains the polymer definition in more detail (including different additives). Section 3.3 has been moved to this section.
Part 3.1 Explanation of substances used as both monomers and intermediates under strictly controlled circumstances
Add a sentence to section 3.2.1.1 to clarify that stabilizers do not need to be registered
Section 3.2.1.2 This section has been modified to reflect the proposals for those substances
Part 3.2.1.3 amends the wording to clarify that only substances used to modify natural polymers need to be registered after chemical bonding is completed
Part 3.2.1.4 Update
This guideline is divided into 4 parts, as follows:
1. Introduction
2. Definition
2.1 Monomer
2.2 Polymers
2.3 Polymer manufacturers
3. Responsibilities and Obligations
3.1 Single manufacturer and importer
3.2 Polymer Manufacturers and Importers
3.2.1 Registration Responsibility
3.2.1.1 General situation
3.2.1.2 Case: Polymers notified under Directive 67/548/EEC
3.2.1.3 Case: natural polymer or chemically modified natural polymer
3.2.1.4 Case: Recycling Polymers
3.2.2 Authorization application
3.2.3 Comply with restriction requirements
3.2.4 Classification and labeling
3.2.5 Information transmission in the supply chain
4. Analysis methods
4.1 Identifying polymer substances
4.2 Concentration of monomers and other reactants
4.3 Tonnages of monomers and other reactants should be considered for registration purposes
