ECHA will continue to publish REACH registration statistics
ECHA has begun to publish detailed statistical information on REACH registration submission documents, registered chemical substances and the sources of registered chemical substances. The move is hoped to be seen as more transparent and improve public understanding of the chemical substances registration process. The statistics, which the agency plans to update every month, will analyze the number of registrations received from June 2008 to August 31, 2012 in different ways.
The first statistics released by ECHA show:
– 4,632 unique substances with a total of 27,321 registration submissions;
– Of these, 3,270 unique substances were registered and 25,291 were registered as joint submissions;
– 2,489 intermediate substances, with a total of 6,338 registration submissions;
– A total of 3,817 registration submissions for 1,084 substances were from small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs);
– 5,545 registration submissions for 1,423 substances, from the sole representative of a non-EU manufacturer.
The published statistics include the following aspects:
– The number of registration submissions and registered substances (including new chemical substances and old chemical substances);
– The number of chemicals notified to the competent authorities of Member States under previous European chemicals regulations (Directive 67/548/EEC) and the number of chemical substances currently under the jurisdiction of REACH;
