RoHS Regulations Exclusion Review Start
Article 5, paragraph 1(C) of the RoHS Directive stipulates that: for exclusion items in the appendix, an audit shall be conducted at least every four years, or a review shall be conducted four years after a new item is added.
Oko-Institut, a consulting firm, was selected to manage the RoHS Directive review process and provide recommendations. Oko-Institut also created a website so the public can access the latest review information at any time. The website address is:http://rohs.exemptions.oeko.info/
On behalf of the European Commission, the consulting firm Oko-Institut began soliciting opinions from relevant industry stakeholders on January 28, 2008, regarding the 29 exclusion clauses of the current RoHS regulation and three proposed new exclusion clauses.
1. Lead in solders for the connection of very thin enameled wires with a terminal (proposed by Siemens)
2. Lead and cadmium are used as components of the glazes and colors to glaze or decorate lamp bases, lamp carriers, or clocks (proposed by the EU ceramics industry, Ceramics-Unie).
3. Lead in solders in a third-party component of Cortex family equipment (proposed by In-Snec Corporation)
This stakeholder consultation will last for nine weeks. Suggestions and comments are welcome to be submitted by April 1, 2008, via email to rohs.exemptions@oeko.de or mailed to [email address missing].
