RoHS regulations formal specification standards

The EU adopted the RoHS Directive in November 2002 and officially announced it on February 13, 2003. The directive explicitly stated that from July 1, 2006, a complete ban on six substances, including lead, cadmium, mercury, hexavalent chromium, and polybrominated biphenyls and polybrominated diphenyl ethers, would be implemented in electronic products. Since the EU directive needs to be translated into national regulations, different countries may have different implementation methods.

However, some substances are naturally present in the raw materials and enter the product during the manufacturing process, and cannot be completely removed effectively. These substances can be considered natural impurities, not intentionally added. For regulatory convenience, the EU has added maximum permissible concentrations (MCVs) as a basis for manufacturers to comply with: 0.1% for lead, mercury, hexavalent chromium, and brominated flame retardants (PBB and PBDE), and 0.01% for cadmium.
