Sony releases the twelfth edition of SS-00259.

On March 1st of this year, Sony Corporation released the 12th edition of its Environmental Management Substances Standard (SS-00259) for Components and Materials. This version will officially take effect on April 1st, 2013. At that time, all components, materials, and other items contained in products designed and manufactured by the Sony Group and those commissioned by the Group must comply with the relevant requirements of this regulation. Five new environmentally regulated substances have been added:

The 12th edition also revised the control of several substances:
l Cadmium and cadmium compounds – A new Level 2 control requirement has been added, applicable to the cadmium content of color conversion group II-VI LEDs used in display systems.
l Polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), polychlorinated naphthalenes (PCNs), and polychlorinated terphenyls (PCTs) – A new limit requirement of less than 50 ppm has been added to materials.
l Polyvinyl chloride (PVC) and PVC blends – The Level 3 control requirement limit of 1000 ppm has been changed to “intended addition,” while the exemption scope has been narrowed.
