EU's new Battery Directive (Batteries legislation)

The EU's new Battery Directive will officially come into effect in September 2008. Currently, the progress of EU member states in converting it into domestic law varies. The requirements of the new Battery Directive are:

Limits for cadmium and mercury;
Battery markings;
Collection and recycling of waste batteries;
Battery manufacturers should register, including manufacturers of batteries used in their products;
Ensure that the battery in the product device can be easily removed.
