In response to the global low-carbon trend, Sinosteel joins hands with the downstream steel industry to reduce carbon emissions and produce steel and downstream products that comply with the carbon neutral declaration. This year (112), two steel products, "wire rod" and "hot-rolled steel coil", have been selected. Sinosteel will first demonstrate the production of carbon-neutral steel, and then supply Jinhe and Shengyu Steel. Customers will follow the same announcement model. The final product is carbon-neutral downstream products and cold-rolled steel products. Recently, Sinosteel produced the first batch of 150 metric tons of wire rod, which has passed third-party verification by BSI British Standards Institute and was delivered to Jinhe for processing into hexagonal screws. Once completed, it will be Taiwan's first batch of carbon-neutral green steel products. This is the first step taken by China Steel, and it is also a big step for Taiwan's steel industry to enter the low-carbon transformation.
Sinosteel began planning and referring to the "PAS 2060 Reference Specification for the Implementation of Carbon Neutrality" (hereinafter referred to as: PAS 2060) last year (hereinafter referred to as: PAS 2060), and implemented the carbon-neutral steel production operation in three steps. First, select the type of steel. According to the production boundary, the carbon footprint of steel is calculated through inventory; secondly, carbon reduction measures are taken to reduce carbon emissions, and the carbon footprint inventory is performed again; finally, the remaining carbon emissions after the reduction measures are implemented are offset through the offset mechanism, and then Achieve carbon neutrality in steel.
Sinosteel's first batch of carbon-neutral wire rod disc units uses the electric furnace of the group company Zhonglong Steel to produce small steel blanks, replacing the original converter process in the factory. The small steel blanks are transported to the Sinosteel wire rod factory for processing, and the wire rod factory simultaneously promotes carbon reduction rolling. Calculation of the carbon footprint and third-party verification showed that the carbon reduction effect of this batch of steel can reach 25%, and the remaining carbon emissions will be fully offset with the carbon rights owned by Sinosteel, achieving carbon neutrality for the first batch of wire rods. These carbon rights used for offsets come from Sinosteel's independent carbon reduction measures in previous years and were obtained after review and approval by the competent authorities. Therefore, this batch of steel can be said to be the result of Sinosteel's cumulative refining over time. The first batch of carbon neutral wire products has been delivered to Jinhe for further processing and production of hexagonal screws. Jinhe will also make a carbon neutrality declaration in accordance with the PAS 2060 practice and is expected to conduct third-party verification by the end of 2012.
Sinosteel continues to improve its carbon emission reduction technology, allowing downstream customers to purchase high-quality and low-carbon emission steel products nearby. Sinosteel deeply understands that if it only sells low-carbon steel to customers, it is still not enough to cope with the global low-carbon wave. Only by adhering to the belief of "good customers and good downstreams, Sinosteel will be better" and fully promote the low-carbon transformation of Taiwan's steel industry , Only in this way can we adapt to the competitive environment together with our customers in the trend of carbon neutrality. Sinosteel demonstrates the process of declaring carbon-neutral products to help customers build product carbon footprint inspection capabilities. Especially before advanced countries such as the European Union and the United States formally impose carbon taxes on imported steel products, companies need to be prepared to respond to green tariffs. homework to help operators prepare as early as possible.
Sinosteel and Taiwan's steel industry have grown together, transforming from the pursuit of "quantity" to improving "quality" and then moving towards the improvement of "value". Faced with the competitive situation in the global steel market and the arduous challenge of global carbon neutrality in 2050, Sinosteel has formulated a new vision of "intelligent innovation, green energy carbon reduction, value co-creation, and becoming an outstanding enterprise with sustainable growth" and declared "high value" "Refined steel mills and development of green energy industry" are the two main operational axes, as well as the three major transformation actions of "low-carbon transformation", "digital transformation" and "supply chain transformation". This time, Sinosteel has produced the first batch of carbon-neutral steel products. In addition to implementing the main focus of the company's operations, it has also set a milestone for Taiwan's steel industry. In the process, through demonstration and announcement practices, it has taken the lead in opening up a low-carbon path for the industry, which will help ease the downstream steel consumption. of carbon anxiety. Sinosteel hopes to continue to work with Taiwan's steel industry supply chain to move forward steadily on the road to low-carbon transformation.
