ECHA updates guidance on downstream users and safety data sheets

ECHAGuidelines for updating downstream users and security data sheets

The European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) recently published updated guidelines for downstream users of chemical substances, including their obligations under the EU Chemicals Regulation (REACH). This update addresses the flow of information regarding the safe use of mixtures and the inspection of standardized applications to ensure that downstream users take protective measures based on the risk exposure scenarios assessed by suppliers when using chemical substances.

The first edition of the guide was drafted in 2008, but it was re-examined last year due to industry feedback that the application of risk exposure scenario scales was too stringent.

At the same time, ECHA has also revised its guidelines for editing Safety Data Sheets (SDSs). The new guidelines, based on the Data Requirements Guidelines and the Chemical Substances Safety Assessment Guidelines, have added a new extended appendix on safety data.

All ECHA guidelines can be downloaded from the following website:http://www.echa.europa.eu/web/guest/guidance-documents/guidance-on-reach

The updated guidelines for downstream users of chemical substances are detailed in the attached document: Guidance for downstream users _v.2.0_ (English)
