Forty percent of Europeans are worried about the health risks of chemicals.
According to the Eurobarometer, a public opinion survey conducted by the European Council on international trends of concern, this survey focused on EU citizens' attitudes toward the environment. The report shows that EU citizens want to know more about the health effects of chemicals in everyday products. People from all 24 EU member states listed this type of information as very important. Across member states, Lithuanians were most concerned about the health effects of chemicals, with 63% of respondents selecting it as their top concern. Swedes and Cypriots ranked second and third, with 61% and 58% respectively considering it very important. In contrast, Portuguese people were the least concerned about the effects of chemicals, with only 26% considering it important. Overall, "the health effects of chemicals in everyday products" ranked third in importance among Europeans' environmental concerns, with 43% wanting more information on this topic. Air pollution ranked first and second at 56% and water pollution at 50%, respectively. Women were also more concerned than men about the health hazards of chemicals. A survey found that four out of ten respondents said they lacked access to information about the health effects of chemicals found in everyday products. This survey was conducted between April and May of this year at the request of the European Commission's Directorate General for Environment.
